EPN Proposes Immediate Actions to Reduce Exposure to Lead in Drinking Water

On July 9, 2021, EPN sent a letter to EPA proposing actions it can immediately take to help reduce exposure to lead in drinking water while the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) are under review. EPN recommended that EPA take stronger steps with states to strengthen compliance and enforcement, ensure that the best corrosion control practices are followed, and encourage utilities to look for and replace lead pipes in disadvantaged neighborhoods. EPN asked EPA to consider its previous comments supporting EPA’s proposal to extend the effective date of the final LCR, and its comments that included the recommendation to conduct a cost-benefit analysis on proposed options for the LCR.
