EPN Comments on National Primary Drinking Water Regulations for Lead and Copper: Improvements

On Monday, February 5, 2024, EPN submitted comments on EPA’s National Primary Drinking Water Regulations for Lead and Copper: Improvements (LCRI). We commend the agency for many of the proposed changes in the LCRI, which will provide an important path towards safe drinking water for all. We made recommendations to improve the proposed exemption criteria for systems that may not meet the replacement rate deadline and suggest that EPA strengthen the disincentives for partial lead line replacements to minimize the disparity in access to safe drinking water. We are concerned that schools and other child-occupied facilities are inadequately addressed in the proposed improvements and recommend that every drinking faucet within schools and related facilities be equipped with filters to reduce lead levels.
