EPN Submits Comments on Revised Risk Determination for Methylene Chloride

On August 4, 2022, EPN submitted comments on the draft revised risk determination for the risk evaluation of Methylene Chloride (MC). EPA is revising specific aspects of the first ten chemical risk evaluations conducted under the reformed Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) in order to ensure that the risk evaluations better align with TSCA’s objective of protecting health and the environment.

While we continue to have concerns with a number of issues involved in the risk evaluation of MC, we agree with the agency’s determination of unreasonable risk for MC as a whole chemical substance and their decision to remove the assumption of personal protective equipment use by workers in the draft revised risk determination. We support prompt risk management actions once the draft MC risk evaluation is finalized.
