Sewage Treatment 101

In the upcoming video, EPN volunteer June Taylor, who formerly worked with public interest groups on new rules and programs in EPA Region 9, delves into Sewer Treatment 101. Throughout her distinguished career, June has navigated multiple sectors of environmental protection, from direct EPA collaborations to co-authoring significant publications. In this presentation, June elucidates the nuances of sewer systems, highlighting the distinction between Combined and Separate Sewer Systems. She sheds light on key metrics pivotal in sewage treatment, such as Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS). With her comprehensive expertise, she also touches upon the U.S. National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and the key entities, like Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW) and Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP), that champion these protocols. In her post-EPA endeavors, June continues to passionately advocate for environmental protection, lending her expertise generously to EPN.
