Starting with the 1976 Resource Recovery and Conservation Act, the EPA has been instrumental in ensuring adequate hazardous waste management, banning waste dumping, and preventing pollution through encouraging reduction and reuse of materials. These efforts ensure citizens public health and a clean environment through regulations on the growing waste generation from manufacturing, industries, wastewater treatment, agriculture, mining, and garbage.
