Piles of trash at a dump

Starting with the 1976 Resource Recovery and Conservation Act, the EPA has been instrumental in ensuring adequate hazardous waste management, banning waste dumping, and preventing pollution through encouraging reduction and reuse of materials. These efforts ensure citizens public health and a clean environment through regulations on the growing waste generation from manufacturing, industries, wastewater treatment, agriculture, mining, and garbage. EPN has created this EPA Core Programs Waste fact sheet to provide a detailed understanding of the EPA’s critical role in reducing the environmental and health impacts of waste.
