Trump Signs Funding Bill That Rejects His Own Cuts to EPA
Washington D.C. – Today, President Trump signed a bipartisan EPA budget agreement that once again rejects his administration’s efforts to gut funding for the Environmental Protection Agency. The bipartisan agreement sends a clear signal: efforts to dismantle EPA’s mission to protect public health and the environment continue to face strong resistance across parties.
The legislation also reinforces congressional intent that EPA carry out its responsibilities as directed, shifting the focus from budget battles to whether the administration will faithfully implement the law.
In response, Marc Boom, Senior Director of Public Affairs at the Environmental Protection Network issued the following statement:
“Once again, the president has signed a funding bill that rejects his administration’s effort to further hollow out the EPA. A bipartisan majority has been clear: weakening the agency that protects our air, water, and communities is unacceptable.
“Congress has provided the funding for EPA to get back on track. Now it’s on Administrator Zeldin to follow that directive and restore staffing to levels where the agency can meet its legal obligations to protect Americans’ health and safety.”
