EPN Presents Testimony on Proposed Revisions to Regulations Implementing NEPA

On October 21, 2021, EPN presented testimony at a virtual public hearing held by the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) in response to their proposal to generally restore regulatory provisions for implementing the procedural provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) that were in effect for decades before being modified under the Trump administration.

Signed in 1970, NEPA requires federal agencies to assess the environmental and long-term impacts of their proposed actions before making decisions on such matters as permit applications, federal land management, and the commitment of federal funds for construction of highways and other publicly-owned facilities. EPN supports CEQ’s proposed revisions, which will ensure federal NEPA assessments meet over five decades of well-established law and practice and provide for addressing climate change and environmental injustice.
