EPN Comments on EPA’s New Source Performance Standards for Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Fossil Fuel-Fired Electric Generating Power Plants

On Tuesday, August 8, 2023, EPN submitted comments on EPA’s New Source Performance Standards for GHG Emissions from Fossil Fuel-Fired Electric Generating Power Plants. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a critically important plan to cut air pollution and reduce GHG emissions from fossil fuel-fired electric generating power plants, which are a top source of GHG emissions that drive climate change and overwhelmingly affect frontline communities overburdened by pollution. The proposed power plant rule is consistent with the Clean Air Act and would substantially reduce GHG emissions from one of the largest source categories and deliver significant benefits to the U.S. and internationally. EPN believes EPA’s proposal for effecting reduced CO2 emissions from the U.S. fossil-fuel power sector provides a sensible path forward in helping to address the challenge of climate change, and we provided several suggestions that could strengthen the rule.
