Rayan Makarem
Community Outreach Associate for EPA Region 7
Rayan Makarem is the Community Outreach Associate with our pro bono capacity-building technical assistance program. Rayan seeks to connect underserved and environmental justice communities in EPA Region 7 with experienced EPA alumni, and other allies, in order to provide technical assistance to community identified projects that will address historical injustices.
With a background in biology and environmental sciences, Rayan completed a masters in environmental policy at the American University of Beirut, and then joined Greenpeace Mediterranean as a campaigner promoting environmental conservation and practices.
After moving to the USA, he worked for state environmental enforcement agencies, and non-governmental environmental justice organizations such as CleanAirNow, where he focused on the implementation and enforcement of clean water and clean air regulations, as well as environmental justice policy advocacy to ensure equity and health for our communities.
Rayan now lives in Kansas City, MO with his wife and daughter. Outside of work, he enjoys going on hikes, cooking, traveling, and showing his daughter all the wonders that our world has to offer.
