Mentoring, Recruitment, and Retention

In partnership with the EPA Alumni Association, EPN conducts numerous activities to encourage people of color and other under-represented populations to work at EPA. These activities include roundtables for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), and other Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) to learn more about what it’s like to work for EPA and provide helpful ideas about navigating the federal hiring process and USAJobs. In addition, our volunteers serve as a resource to teachers and career counselors; guest lecture and speak on panels; and mentor students, young professionals, and current EPA staff.

HBCU Recruitment at Delaware State University

On Thursday, November 10, 2022, in partnership with the EPA Alumni Association, EPN conducted a virtual roundtable event with Delaware State University, a historically Black institution in Dover, Delaware. This event was part of our efforts to diversify EPA’s workforce by holding events at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs).

HBCU Recruitment at Benedict College

On Tuesday, November 1, 2022, in partnership with the EPA Alumni Association, EPN conducted a virtual roundtable event with Benedict College, a historically Black institution in Columbia, South Carolina. This event was part of our efforts to diversify EPA’s workforce by holding events at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs).

On Monday, October 17, 2022, in partnership with the EPA Alumni Association, EPN conducted a virtual roundtable event with Arkansas Baptist College, a historically Black institution, in Little Rock, AR. This event was part of our efforts to complement EPA’s objective to diversify its workforce by holding discussions with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs).

American University Environmental Careers Network Sessions

EPN volunteers participated in an American University Environmental Careers Network event from October 11-13, 2022. Volunteers met with up to four students for thirty-minute one-on-one mentoring sessions where students came prepared to ask questions related to specific fields or general environmental studies.

On Thursday, September 8, 2022, in partnership with the EPA Alumni Association, EPN conducted a virtual roundtable event with California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt, a historically Black institution, in Arcata, CA. This event was part of our efforts to complement EPA’s objective to diversify its workforce by holding discussions with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) as well as other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs).

EPN Holds Inaugural Roundtable Discussion at Prairie View A&M University

On April 12, EPN, in collaboration with the EPA Alumni Association, hosted its inaugural roundtable discussion with Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) at Prairie View A&M University in Texas.
