EPN Comments on the Reconsideration of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for Particulate Matter

On March 28, 2023, EPN submitted comments on EPA’s reconsideration of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for Particulate Matter (PM). We urge the agency to ensure that these standards protect all populations, but especially those most at-risk to particle pollution. EPN recommends an annual standard of 8.0 μg/m3, which is within the Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC) recommendation. We agree with the CASAC majority that EPA should also lower the 24-hour standard to between 25 and 30 μg/m3, which is supported by epidemiological evidence.
