On November 29, 2021, EPN submitted comments on EPA’s draft Supplement to the 2019 Integrated Science Assessment (ISA) for particulate matter (PM). The Supplement represents a targeted review of peer-reviewed studies published since the literature cutoff date in the 2019 ISA. The 2019 ISA and Supplement provide the scientific basis for the reconsideration of the current PM National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) and the appropriateness of possible alternative standards. EPN stressed the need to consider relevant studies published since early 2018 that were not cited and discussed in the draft Supplement, as well as the environmental justice implications of controlled human studies on the short-term PM standard.
