EPN Requests an Extension of the Comment Period for 13 Draft Risk Evaluations Under the Toxic Substances Control Act

On April 16, 2020, EPN sent a letter to EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler requesting an extension of the public comment period for draft risk evaluations of 13 chemicals under the Toxic Substances Control Act. EPA’s procedure for risk evaluations provides a 45-day comment period for a single scoping document, so it is unreasonable to expect the public to review and provide meaningful comments on 13 documents in the same 45-day period. EPN requested that the comment period be extended for 90 days, ending on August 10. EPN is hopeful that providing time for adequate review and the submission of substantive comments will lead to better risk evaluations and a more efficient process.
