The EPA has been responsible for hazardous waste cleanups and response to environmental emergencies since 1980, and has thus established the Superfund program as well as an Emergency Response system. EPN has created this EPA Core Programs Superfund fact sheet to provide a detailed understanding of the EPA’s critical role in monitoring both legacy and emergency contamination situations to protect citizens’ health and the environment.
