National Policy Highlights

  • EPN submitted written comments and gave oral testimony on EPA’s proposal to repeal parts of the 2024 Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS).

  • EPN also submitted written comments and gave oral testimony on EPA’s Proposed Repeal of Greenhouse Gas Standards for Electric Generating Units.

  • EPN submitted comments opposing EPA’s plan to delay PFAS drinking water standard compliance and rescind certain maximum contaminant levels (MCLs).

  • EPN submitted comments urging EPA to select Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC) members with strong, multidisciplinary scientific expertise, free of conflicts of interest.

  • EPN Executive Director Michelle Roos and EPN volunteer Larry Weinstock presented oral comments at a public hearing for EPA’s proposed repeal of the Endangerment Finding and Standard Rescission.

Technical Assistance and Civil Service Resiliency Updates

  • During July and August, EPN connected 45 unique volunteers to over 165 requests for technical assistance from frontline communities, nonprofit organizations, under-resourced government agencies, and others—in addition to hundreds of requests from federal grantees that were frozen out of their funds, terminated, or otherwise under attack.

  • In addition, EPN hosted four webinars with close to 1,000 attendees combined to provide information and resources to grantees navigating federal funding, and sent updates and potential actions to hundreds of grantees.

  • During July and August, EPN provided mentors to 17 members of AFGE Local 3911 (New York) in a soft-launch mentoring partnership. Mentees were interested in advice on careers both within and outside of the agency. AFGE Local 3911 and EPN are partnering on a second round of mentor sessions and are working to launch the mentorship program with AFGE nationally later this year.

  • In August, EPN hosted a webinar in partnership with Green Jobs Network including practical tips and resources for finding jobs in sustainability, the environment, clean energy and related fields.

  • EPN volunteers were featured in dozens of media outlets and authored several op-eds. EPN continues to provide in-depth, insightful background information to numerous reporters, congressional staffers, and nonprofits.
