New Men’s Health Issue Brief Examines How Toxic Pollution & Chemical Exposures Endanger Men’s Health
In Time for Father’s Day & for Men’s Health Month
Today, the Environmental Protection Network (EPN) released a new issue brief, Men’s Health and Toxic Exposures, examining how exposure to pollution and toxic chemicals can affect men’s reproductive health, heart health, cancer risk, neurological health, and chronic disease outcomes.
The brief highlights growing scientific evidence linking environmental exposures—including air pollution, PFAS, pesticides, plastics-related chemicals/microplastics, lead, and other contaminants—to a range of health problems affecting men and their families.
The concerns are documented in EPN’s Terrible Toxics: A Situation Report, which examines how Americans are exposed to harmful pollutants through the water they drink, the air they breathe, the food they eat and the products in their households everyday. The report underscores that while personal health choices such as diet, exercise, and preventive care remain important, they are only a small part of the broader picture.

The brief emphasizes that while individuals can take steps to reduce some exposures, Americans cannot solve widespread pollution problems on their own. EPN shares that strong science-based safeguards and effective enforcement remain essential to protecting public health.

About EPN
The Environmental Protection Network is a nonpartisan organization comprising more than 750 former EPA scientists, toxicologists, chemists, biologists, engineers, and policy analysts — many of whom spent decades as career experts inside the agency. They assessed cancer and developmental risks, studied links between pollution and fertility and chronic disease, investigated contaminated communities, and brought enforcement actions to hold corporate polluters accountable. EPN was founded in 2017 to serve as an independent voice promoting science-based policies that protect Americans’ health.
