Highlights

  • EPN submitted comments in response to EPA’s request for information on Climate Pollution Reduction grants. We recommend that planning grants should maximize a cooperative federalism approach to climate change and be made available to all states and Tribes ready and willing to work toward shared climate goals.

  • EPN submitted comments welcoming the new efforts that EPA proposes to improve compliance of its regulatory decisions for pesticides with the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

  • EPN delivered oral testimony during a hearing on the proposed National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for Particulate Matter (PM 2.5), supporting an annual level of 8.0 ug/m3 and encouraging EPA to adopt a 24-hour standard from 25 to 30 ug/m3 as recommended by the Chartered Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC) majority.

EPN’s Work on Air and Climate

EPN Presents Testimony on EPA’s Proposed PM NAAQS

On February 21, 2023, EPN delivered oral testimony during a hearing on the proposed NAAQS for PM2.5. EPN suggests that the scientific evidence supports the conclusion that an annual level of 8.0 ug/m3 is requisite to protect public health. In addition, we encouraged EPA to adopt a 24-hour standard from 25 to 30 ug/m3 as recommended by the CASAC majority.

EPN Comments on Climate Pollution Reduction Grants

On January 18, 2023, EPN submitted comments in response to EPA's request for information on Climate Pollution Reduction grants. EPN provides four recommendations and offers our ongoing support in any way that our volunteers can be of help to EPA and stakeholders in meeting the goals of the program.

EPN’s Work on Pesticides

EPN Comments on the Endangered Species Act Workplan Update

On November 16, 2022, EPA issued a Workplan Update to ensure that its regulatory actions involving pesticides comply with the ESA and explained the steps they would take to better protect non-target species. EPN submitted comments, welcoming EPA’s new proposals. We also made several recommendations, including clarifying the scope, using existing biological opinions, and collaborating with partners to develop a robust labeling and communication plan.
