EPN Testifies on EPA’s Draft Risk Evaluation of Asbestos

On June 8, 2020, EPN presented testimony on the draft risk evaluation of asbestos at the public virtual meeting of the Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals, an independent panel that provides advice and recommendations to EPA on the scientific basis for risk evaluations of chemicals and substances regulated under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Asbestos is an extremely toxic mineral that is undergoing a risk evaluation by EPA to determine whether it presents unreasonable risks to people’s health or the environment. The testimony reflects extensive comments from EPN objecting to the process followed and basis on which EPA conducted the risk evaluation of asbestos.
