EPN Comments on EPA’s Draft Guidance for Reducing Risk from PFOA and PFOS in Biosolids

On October 5, 2026, Environmental Protection Network submitted formal comments on EPA’s draft guidance for reducing risks from PFOA and PFOS in biosolids, arguing that the guidance fails to provide meaningful recommendations for wastewater utilities, farmers, states, Tribes, or the public. EPN urges EPA to finalize its 2025 biosolids risk assessment and establish national limits on PFAS in land-applied biosolids, while criticizing the agency for delaying measures to reduce PFAS discharges and rejecting source reduction and pretreatment programs. EPN warns that the draft guidance represents backsliding under the Clean Water Act and leaves communities, farmers, and water resources vulnerable to PFAS contamination.
