EPA 101: Superfund & Brownfields

EPN hosted an EPA 101: Superfund & Brownfields webinar, featuring three former EPA Region 7 leaders: David Hoefer (former Chief, Superfund Branch), David Williams (former Chief, Superfund Program), and David Doyle (former Land Revitalization Coordinator).

The panel provided an accessible overview of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA)—its origins, key provisions, and how it guides cleanup of contaminated sites nationwide. They discussed the importance of community involvement, explained removal actions and longer-term remediation processes, and highlighted EPA’s ongoing investment in revitalizing communities through brownfields redevelopment.

This session offered a clear, practical foundation for understanding Superfund and brownfields programs and the impact they have in communities across the country.
