Mikayla Pellerin is a recent graduate of American University where she received a Bachelors of Arts in International Relations and a minor in Business Finance. At American her studies allowed her to engage in courses and initiatives focused on environmental sustainability and economic development, including courses such as Environmental Conservation, American Energy Policy, Sustainable Urban Development and assisting American’s Center for Environmental Policy. During her time at university, she studied abroad for her entire junior academic year, first in Rouen, France, studying international business and then spent the spring semester in Nairobi, Kenya, studying the environment and human health in a developing nation. During her time in Kenya, she interned with Umanda Trust, a Kenyan organization committed to improving the lives of residents in Kibera, one of Africa’s largest informal settlements. Her work there focused on compiling data on their bio sanitation centers through interviews at over 15 locations. The years Mikayla spent in Washington, D.C., she interned for the Solar Electric Light Fund, Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture, APCO Worldwide, and participated in AmeriCorps Jumpstart Program. Mikayla is dedicated to environmental protection and plans on continuing post grad into a career that blends her expertise and passions for the environment.
