In June 2017, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt and his staff put forth a proposal to put a two-year delay on certain compliance dates in the most recent Clean Air Act Oil and Gas New Source Performance Standards, commonly known as the Methane Rule. The EPA’s proposal totally discounts the health damage of a delay, particularly for children. It similarly ignores the climate- change impacts of methane and the benefits of reducing emissions for two years. In EPN’s 9-page letter to Administrator Pruitt, they detail their opposition to the EPA’s proposal to delay compliance requirements of the rule.
